Upcoming Important Updates and Deprecations in Dynamics 365

Below are some important upcoming Dynamics 365-related announcements and deprecations to be mindful of, specifically around the new Unified Interface web client and Dynamics 365 for Outlook.

Legacy Web Client Updated Deprecation Date
To help reduce pressure on customers and partners working to absorb updates driven by end of support or deprecation deadlines especially in light of the current global health crisis, Microsoft has relaxed the deadlines for deprecating the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement legacy web client by two months to December. This means that all customers now have until December 1, 2020 to transition over to the Unified Interface. The legacy web client will be deprecated by that date. Microsoft will continue to support the legacy web client, but only through the December 1, 2020 deadline.

That said, Altriva still highly recommends crafting a transition plan well in advance to ensure a smooth upgrade and to allow your users ample time to start getting familiar with the new layout and features such as improved navigation, faster load time, focused roles creation, and richer dashboards. The preparation steps would include creating a default app, checking compatibility for code and third party solutions, and providing updated training to users. Microsoft has also provided a quick start for transitioning as well as a checklist to assist with this effort.

Dynamic 365 for Outlook is Deprecated
Microsoft has announced that as of March 2020, the legacy Dynamics 365 for Outlook (also referred to as Outlook COM add-in) is now deprecated. Customers must transition to the modern Dynamics 365 App for Outlook before October 1, 2020. Microsoft will continue to provide support, security and other critical updates to the Outlook COM Add-in but only until October 1, 2020.

Microsoft has provided this Dynamics 365 for Outlook (COM add-in) Playbook that includes additional information and steps to help assist with this transition.
